Election 2015
One week from today the good people of Nanaimo-Ladysmith will head to the polls to select Canada's Prime Minister and government.  Barsby students will also get the chance to vote, so we are going to help you follow the election.  Nanaimo-Ladysmith is a new riding, created because of the growing population on Vancouver Island.  Five local candidates are running to be your next Member of Parliament.  They are Conservative Mark Macdonald, Green Paul Manly, Liberal Tim Tessier, Marxist-Leninist Jack East, and New Democrat Sheila Malcomson.  Our former representative, New Democratic Party's Jean Crowder is retiring after 12 years of service, so one of these candidates will become the new Member of Parliament of Nanaimo -Ladysmith on October 19th.  Stay tuned this week to learn a little bit about each candidate and their party......and remember, not voting is not rebellion, its surrender!
Ladysmith Ambassador Program
The Ladysmith Ambassador Program is recruiting candidates in grades 11 and 12 who are residents of Ladysmith and the surrounding area including residents of Cedar. The program works to improve public speaking skills through a Toastmasters course and improve stage presence and confidence through a Professional Development course. Candidates will volunteer throughout the community and participate in Ambassador events including a Fashion Show, Speech and Talent Showcase, and Coronation Evening. If you are interested in becoming a candidate, please contact Madeline Tremblay at 250 797 4470 or post in the Hopeful Ladysmith Ambassador Candidates page on Facebook.
