Park Avenue Community School is a place where staff, students, families and community members work together to learn from each other what it means to be safe, caring and responsible citizens.
We have 277 students from kindergarten through grade seven. We are grateful for the outstanding community support that has helped us to creating gardens, improve technology, coach sports leagues, build a vibrant band program and fund-raise to improve our playground.
We host a before and after-school care program and offer a breakfast, snack and emergency lunch program thanks to Breakfast Clubs of Canada, Altrusa and Nanaimo Rotary.
Recent Historical Highlights:
- February 2010, every student contributed to building our school garden with the help of Anna Dodds from Nanaimo Foodshare and with grants from Toyota Evergreen and Coastal Community Credit Union.
- April 2011, we created our courtyard garden and a greenhouse with help from Rona, the Serauxmen, Nanaimo Foodshare and Toyota Evergreen Foundation. This year, for the first time in many years, we have a band program with 45 students enrolled.
- October 26-27, 2012, we celebrated our 50th anniversary with a breakfast by the Knights of Columbus for over 400 present students, staff and family members on the Friday and a luncheon by Nanaimo Foodshare for over 250 former Park Avenue alumni on the Saturday.
